The Dutch postcode system is unique in the world. It's very simple and you can easily deduce an address with 4 numbers, 2 letters and a house number. In that sense it's very simple. This map was a brainfart that I wanted to see realized.
By creating hexagons of every municipality with a postcode, one gets this weird map with its unique groupings. Instinctively Dutch people kind of know where which postcodes are. But reality is a little stranger. I never thought the 7000-series postcodes were all the way up in Drenthe. Or that Flevoland would be as split as it is, between 1300, 3800 and 8X00.
This map features an index of every postcode and its province. And a full history and explanation of postcodes in the Netherlands. You don't need a map with postcodes, but it's an interesting piece of decoration. Hexagons are the bestagons?
